‘Be the Change’ Parents Workshop 1, 2017
‘Be the Change’ Parents Workshop is a series of parenting forums for parents of 12-17 year olds. VHP
Victoria coordinated this successful event at Monash University, Melbourne on Sunday 26th March 2017.
The objective was to have an open discussion forum to share parents’ valuable experience of raising Indian
children within the Australian community. As most the participants are from non-English speaking,
migrant communities, they often face challenges of cross cultural issues and isolation. The parent forum
was successful in helping to address this community concern.
The forum moderator Sanjeet Naidu, started with a presentation of guidelines on ‘nurturing the leader in
the child’. Parenting topics discussed included spending time with children, inspiration, setting examples,
encouragement, communication, discipline and culture. A variety of views and parenting approaches
were discussed with practical examples provided. Most importantly, all parents had the opportunity to
share their ideas and reflect on their parenting approach.
The participants exhibited passion and commitment in positive parenting. Parents took with them
actionable tasks which could be practically applied in day-to-day life.
VHP Victoria is committed towards creating flourishing families with parents being positive role models
to their children. The 2017 workshop series promises to be exciting and engaging for parents, allowing
them to reflect on their parenting and their important role in raising ‘tomorrows leaders’.
The second workshop is scheduled for Sunday, 25th June 2017. Attendance is only by pre-registration. To
register your interest emailvhpvic@gmail.com or hya@vhp.org.au with details of your name, your
